インド、ヒンドゥー教の聖地ヴァラナシにてヴェナレスガラナの有名な音楽系列の家に7代目のシタール奏者として生まれ、世界的に知られている父、Pandit Shivnath Mishraのもと5才から声楽を学び、翌年よりシタールを学び始めた。
1984年にShitala templeにて行われたコンサートにわずか8歳で出場し、彼の才能は観客を驚かせた、その後、多くの偉大な音楽家(Late Pt. Nankoo Maharaj, Prakash Maharaj, KumarLal Mishra, Lachhu
Maharaj, Nojim Hussain, Ikram Khan,)等との競演、全てのインドのラジオプログラムに出演を果たし、1995年にはBEST YOUNG SITAR PLAYERを受賞する。
翌年より、父Pandit Shivnath Mishraと共に2本のシタールで演奏されるジャガルバンディのスタイルで、ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、カナダ等をまわり、1997年にはイタリアフィレッソでのジャズフェスティバルにも出演を果たした。その後もインド、ヨーロッパのラジオやテレビで様々なミュージシャンとの共演やアメリカでの野外Festival出場やカナダツアー等精力的に活動を行い、日本においては、遠藤周作原作の映画「深い川」に楽曲提供をし、2008年には初来日し大阪での公演で好評を得た。

Deobrat Mishra has a prominent place among young Sitar artists in India.
Selctivity, melody and rythmic complexity are typical features in his playing
style.
Born in 1976, he represents the seventh generation of the Benares Gharana. As a
young child he studied tabla with his mother Pramila Mishra, who is the grand
daughter of the well known Table player Baiju Mishra. He started by studying
vocal music with his father at the age of five and began his sitar lesson a
year later. That same year, after only six month of studying sitar, he gave his
first performance on stage and 5 years later he performed for the first time on
All India Radio.
Since 1994 he has toured throughout Europe with his father Pandit Shivnath
Mishra. In the same year he was chosen to receive the Award of the best
young sitar player of India. In 2000, he received the Jewels of Sound award
in Mumbai. His many project include music workshops, solo performances
for radio and television and world music with Indian and European artists.
Recently he has received a masters degree in Sitar from the Prayag Sangit
Samiti in Allahabad and is touring and studying with his father. Deobrat
Mishra has now a Music-Academy in Varanasi for People who wants to learn
real Indian Classical Music.
