Abdurrahman
Gülbeyaz (Apo)
Born in Iskenderun, Turkey. Trained as dancer in Istanbul and Ankara 1976
– 1981.
Performed and taught traditional dances of eastern Mediterranean area in Turkey
and Germany 1982 – 1991. Studied English language, literature and Culture at Hamburg University,
with minors in Systematic Musicology and Medical Sociology.
1988 – present: Worked as a musician, mainly percussion, in different formations
and bands of varying musical directions, especially in the direction of
traditional music of eastern Mediterranean and classical historical music
of the middle east, but also jazz. Since 2006 teaching at Osaka University.
Sefer Simsek
He was fascinated by the Saz when it was presented to him as a birthday present at the age of 5, He played it at a wedding reception when he was 6 and by the age of 12 he was studying under Mr.Emre Saltuk at Arif Saz Music School, origin of many excellent saz players at the same time Sefa later apeared on TV, stage and on radio as a professional.
Sefa had a chance to travel around Turkey and was impressed by the profundity
of Turkish Music after graduating, He extended his travels of the Mediterranean
to the Black sea region, Cappadocia and other places as a performer and
also a teacher of the saz.
He has been influenced by the original music of each region and other musicians
as well and has expanded his own music outlook. The saz is not a well known
instrument but his performances have been well received at events, parties
and concerts.
