Shalestone Music: How best would you describe your sound?
Gigantic(Mark Di Renzo): Gigantic make passionate and articulate power pop with
catchy melodies, infectious harmonies and crunchy guitars.
SM: I see from your picture there are 2 members. Is that it or are there other
band members?
G: Paul and I are the
main nucleus of the band. Paul plays drums and percussion and sings and I play
bass and keyboards and sing. In the studio we’ve had a heap of friends play different bits and pieces on the album which
made the recording process a lot of fun for us. And the Gigantic live band
that will be touring Japan is made up of Paul, our older brother John playing
guitars and myself.
SM: Looking at your flier, you’ve got quite a “world tour” lined up. Is this your first
time doing this type of tour? What do you think it will be like?
G: We are very lucky in that this is actually the second time this year
we have done this sort of a tour. In February and March we toured with
our Aussie buddies the Chevelles for the West Aussie Power Pop Assault
World Tour. That tour was fantastic but unfortunately it did not include
a visit to Japan. On the upcoming tour we’ll be playing dates in Australia,
Japan, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain and then more dates in the
USA, it’s going to be great fun for us!
SM: Will this be your first time performing in Japan?
G: Yes, this will be the first time we’ve performed in
and visited Japan.
SM: Ok, do you have any
expectations for what things will be like or how your music will be received?
G: We don’t really have any set expectations for what things will be like. We know
that culturally Japan is quite a different place to Australia and it excites
us to go somewhere new and different. We really just want to do our thing
and we hope that the audiences there like it. We’ve
had a few people from Japan contact us through myspace so we are really looking
forward to meeting some of them and getting the opportunity to play there.
SM: Finally, what’s 1 thing you guys are really eager
to do once you’re in Japan?
G: Well it is quite hard to narrow it down to 1 thing. We are really eager
to play our shows of course but we are also really eager to meet the local
people and to try some authentic Japanese food that is actually made in
Japan (and not in Australia). We can’t wait to get there!
